Our Story
The Presentation Story spans more than two hundred and fifty years. Having set up her first schools in 1754, Nano Nagle founded her congregation on Christmas Eve 1775. We are now three thousand women world wide who strive to follow in the footsteps of our valiant foundress.

Our story is a tiny segment of the Christian story from which it derives its impetus and its meaning.  Nano Nagle, our foundress,  began her work of liberation of the poor in Cork,  in a setting of political oppression, displacement of people, economic and social injustice and deprivation of human rights.

ImageIn the face of fear she chose to be daring,
in the face of anxiety, she chose to trust,
in the face of impossibility, she chose to begin.

To universal misery she opposed ministry to persons,
To ignorance, knowledge,
To disillusionment, tenacity of purpose,
And to multiple vexations, singleness of heart.

Faced with failure, she held fast to hope,
Faced with death, she believed in a living future,
And programme for that future she gave in one word:
                             Love (Sr. Raphael Considine)

Nano Nagle brought to the sad reality of her day all that a person can ever bring - her own response made in faith to God, whom she knew  to be present in each human life.  Inspired by her example, other women, in circumstances at once amazingly different, amazingly similar, have down the centuries,  brought to the developing story their own unique contribution in every continent.
