Taking a Break at Mount Saint Anne's
A Holiday with a Difference

From 12 to 19th August eighteen ‘young at heart’ Sisters from across the Province together with two vibrant ladies from Matlock and one from America re- energized the place that once was Novitiate to many of them.  There was laughter and song, prayer and conversation in an atmosphere of tranquillity and peace.

We went on tour to places we didn’t know existed like the Sensory Gardens attached to Dove House in Abbeyleix.  This was once the Garden of the Brigidine Convent and is now newly created and tended with devotion and care by the clients of Dove House under the expert and careful guidance of Paul O’ Toole.   Miriam Hyland and her staff in Dove House greeted us with warmth and hospitality and we were happy to take shelter from the rain in the lovely dining room of the The Centre. We travelled to Birr Castle and roamed the magnificent gardens with their lakes, streams and hot houses of exotic plants.  Our journey home was through the beautiful Slieve Blooms, a never to be forgotten experience.

The National Stud
The Japanese Gardens and the National Stud were also on our itinerary, a journey that ended with Tea and song with the The Monasterevin Community.  Fr. Jose, the Chaplain in Mt.St.Annes took good care of our spiritual needs with a beautiful liturgy each day while the Staff with Sr. Brid catered for our every need in the temporal sense.  We celebrated Pakistan and India Independence Days and thought of our Sisters and Brothers on mission in these countries.

Our final night with a singsong and ‘party’ added that final touch that will engrave the whole experience on our memories and brighten the darker days of winter ahead. Thank you to Sr. Marie Therese and her jolly troop of helpers; Breda Wall, Maureen Miley, Cecilia Molloy, Anne Marie Farragher, and the Mt. St.Annes’s Staff.
