Presentation Day Celebrated |
|
On Presentation Day, 21 November 2007, the Feast day was celebrated across the province. One special celebration took place at Scoil Chriost Ri, Portlaoise where the school had chosen to combine its Presentation Day celebrations with its official ceremony to mark the transfer of trusteeship of the school from the Northern Province to CEIST. Sr. Columba, who had founded the secondary school, was a special guest of honour. The photo shows Columba receiving a boquet of flowers. Sr. Mary Deane from the Central Leadership Team, who was on a Visitation to Portlaoise, also attended the ceremony.
Columba was invited to light the CEIST candle and hand it over to Sr. Evelyn Byrne (Chairperson, Board of Management), the Principal (Miss Helen O' Donnell), staff members and the Head Girl who then placed the Candle on a special stand. The students of the school, under the supervision of their Art teacher, had decorated the Hall beautifully with symbols of the Presentation congregation and of the other congregations that form CEIST. The Choir sang beautifully, conducted most ably by the schools Music teacher and the RE Department had prepared the wonderful service and the Principal spoke movingly about Presentation values. Sr. Evelyn Byrne concluded the service by remarking that while there was sadness at the transfer of trusteeship, there was also excitement at a new beginning. There was also huge confidence in the lay leadership of our schools as exemplified by Ms. Helen O' Donnell.
A number of former Principals and Acting Principals were also present.
