|Jubilation at Presentation Jubilee|
This was the headline headline for an article in the Westmeath Examiner on the celebrations which marked the golden jubilee celebrations of Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire, Mullingar. Other occasions being marked were the retirement of Sr. Ann Pender and the jubilees of four Sisters who were professed in Mullingar sixty years ago.
On the occasion of the retirement of Sr. Ann Pender after 40 years spent in the class-room another historic occasion was recalled. In his tribute to Sr. Ann, who had spent the past ten years teaching in Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire, Fr. Crosbie, chairperson of the Board of Management of the school, recalled the 181-year-old link between Presentation Sisters and education in Mullingar.
To mark the occasion of the golden jubilee of the school a sundial, which had previously stood in front of the Convent before its closure, was re-erected in the garden of Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire. This sundial, which was dated 1769, had been given to the Sisters on their arrival in 1826 by the Dominicans of Mullingar.
